Exploring Popular Jewish Charities in Central Maryland

The Associated is a Jewish organization that works to build Jewish life in Baltimore, Israel and around the world. This organization provides grants to a variety of organizations that work with people in need in local communities as well as initiatives to improve underserved areas. It also supports flagship programs such as CHANA which provides a “Jewish response to victims of abuse” in Baltimore. Additionally it provides grants for elementary and secondary education such as Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School or Krieger Schecter Day School.

The Associated also supports large international Jewish organizations such as United States Jewish Joint Distribution Committee or Friends of Israel Defense Funds. Each year, Associated Jewish Charities awards grants to Baltimore-area organizations that work with people in need in local communities, as well as initiatives to improve and develop underserved areas. Public health is a smaller area of giving for this funder, but charities consistently support a handful of beneficiaries working in the area of health, both locally and in other parts of the United States. Funding gives high priority to Jewish organizations and to the Baltimore, Maryland area, and the beneficiaries range from international Jewish organizations to small local schools and outreach programs that serve Jewish and other communities in the Baltimore metropolitan area. The Associated Jewish Federation currently oversees some 400 donor-advised funds and foundations and provides grants to Jewish and non-Jewish organizations in the areas of religion, education, health, human services and more.

By providing grants and a wide range of other programs, the federation “strengthens and encourages Jewish life by engaging and supporting community partners in the Baltimore metropolitan area, Israel and around the world.
