Psalms Projects
The Lubavitch Center for Jewish Education sponsors two psalms projects
The Shabbos Mevarchim Psalms Project
Traditional Jews recite the entire book of psalms on Shabbos Mevarchim,
the Shabbos before Rosh Chodesh. The new month is blessed during morning
services on Shabbos Mevarchim and reciting psalms adds to the material and
spiritual blessings designated for the community.
This project is an undertaking of Jewish women in Columbia, Maryland.
None of us can complete the book by herself, so we divide the book among us.
When each of us recites her designated portion, the entire book is completed.
The psalms can be read in either Hebrew or English, and must be read during
the daylight hours on each Shabbos Mevarchim.
All Jewish women are welcome to join us. So far we have enough volunteers
to complete the book of psalms twice on each Shabbos Mevarchim. With enough
volunteers, we will be able to complete a third reading each month.
If you are a Jewish woman (ie. post-bas mitzvah) who would like to become
a part of the Shabbos Mevarchim Psalms Project, please call the Lubavitch
Center at (410) 740-2424, or reach us by email. Share your interest in the
Shabbos Mevarchim Psalms Project and leave your name and phone number
and we will get back to you.
